Miles barely managed to escape, and once he had, Miles, along with the rest of the city, grieved Spider-Man's death, all the while he struggled with the promise he made to the dying Peter. Fisk and the others heard him and sent the Prowler to get him. Before he died, Peter gave Miles an override key and asked him to finish the job for him and destroy the collider. Spider-Man didn't get the chance, however, as Miles witnessed Kingpin kill him after the Super-Collider was activated and partially destroyed. Spider-Man told him that he would help train him. Accidentally pulled into the scene, Miles had to be saved by Spider-Man whose Spider-Sense quickly made him realize that Miles had spider abilities like him. Miles "senses" danger around him, his senses leading him to a facility further underground and witnessed Spider-Man himself battling Goblin. Wanting to prove to himself that he was not turning into another Spider-Man, he returned to the subway terminal where he was bitten by the spider and was surprised to see the dead spider seemingly extraordinarily glitching. There, he found a comic book owned by his roommate which showed the origins of Spider-Man, realizing that he was experiencing a similar transformation. Embarrassed and overwhelmed, Miles ran and found himself walking along the side of their school's building until he eventually found his way to his dorm room. At school, Miles tried to flirt with a fellow new student who'd piqued his interest, and strangely introduced herself as " Gwanda", and uncontrollably got his fingers stuck in her hair, forcing the girl to have the side of her head shaved.

The following day, Miles underwent a bizarre series of changes, including a growth spurt and the ability to adhere to materials and surfaces. While there, Miles got bitten by a genetically modified Alchemax spider labeled "42", which he quickly killed. Aaron took Miles to an abandoned subway terminal, which served as a canvas for Miles to freely throw up his graffiti and express himself. Stressed out by his school situation, Miles visited his paternal uncle, Aaron. His reluctance surrounding his new school occasionally put him at odds with his father.ĭesperate to be sent back to his old school, Miles tried to fail his classes in an attempt to get expelled but was called out by one of his teachers instead. In spite of this, he was reluctant to leave behind his friends and his old school where he was comfortable and popular. After passing the entry test to the exclusive private school Brooklyn Visions Academy, he won a lottery for a slot in the school and was immediately enrolled. Gifted with the arts, Miles expresses himself by leaving sticker tags wherever he could and with graffiti. Miles grew up admiring his city's protector, the beloved hero Spider-Man, despite Jeff's - his father and a police man - reservations about him. Miles Morales lived in Brooklyn, New York, of African-American and Puerto Rican descent.
